Directive 2006/95/EC published by the European Parliament and the Council is on the harmonization of the laws of the European Union countries regarding electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits.

For the purposes of this directive, the term electrical equipment means any equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 Volts for alternating current and between 75 and 1500 Volts for direct current, other than equipment and phenomena listed in the annex to the directive.
The countries of the European Union shall take all appropriate measures to ensure that electrical equipment is placed on the market only if it does not endanger the safety of persons, pets or property, and is properly installed and maintained and used in the manner in which it is maintained, in accordance with good engineering practices in safety matters in force.
The following are outside the scope of this directive as they fall within the scope of other directives:
Directive 2006/95/EC in general, in particular electrical appliances, ballasts, lighting equipment including switchgear and control gear, electric motors and alternators, electrical cables, appliance couplers and cable sets, including electrical installations to operate within these voltage limits includes consumer products designed and similar products.
In general, this directive covers both electrical equipment intended to be incorporated into other equipment and equipment intended to be used directly without inclusion. However, some types of electrical appliances designed and manufactured for use as key components to be incorporated into other electrical equipment are such that their safety largely depends on how they are integrated into the final product and the overall characteristics of the appliance.
Harmonization of the laws of the European Union countries regarding electrical equipment designed to be used within certain voltage limits, numbered 2006/95/EC, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors. It also provides testing services within the scope of the directive.
