Low Voltage Directive Tests No. 2014/35/EU

Low Voltage Directive Tests No. 2014/35/EU

Legislation numbered 2014/35/EU, published in the European Union countries, contains principles for harmonization of the laws of the member states regarding the placing on the market of electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits.

Low Voltage Directive Tests No. 2014/35/EU

The main objectives of this legal regulation are as follows:

  • To guarantee the functioning of the electrical equipment on the market, the domestic market
  • Ensuring that requirements are met that ensure a high level of protection of the health and safety of pets and property

This regulation applies to electrical equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 Volts for alternating current and between 75 and 1500 Volts for direct current, except for equipment and phenomena listed in the annex to the directive (Annex II).

Electrical equipment may be placed on the market for consumers in the European Union countries only if it has been manufactured in accordance with applicable good engineering practices regarding safety and, when properly manufactured, properly installed and maintained and used for its intended purpose, does not endanger the health and safety of persons, pets or property. The main elements of the safety objectives are set out in the annex to this legal regulation (Annex I).

The purpose of the legal regulation, known as the low voltage directive, is to provide safe electrical equipment for people in a certain voltage range. It is a standard harmonized regulation to protect consumers from distress or injury. Manufacturers need to make sure that:

  • The product is safe for people, animals and property.
  • The equipment carries a document to provide consumers with appropriate instruction manual.
  • The product can withstand environmental conditions and is unaffected by these conditions in a way that harms humans and animals.

In addition, the manufacturer is required to affix CE marks to these devices, complete a declaration of conformity, and prepare a technical file. The directive covers electrical devices such as household appliances, laser devices, sockets, and cables.

Meanwhile, this directive requires manufacturers to self-assess products to ensure safe and healthy electrical equipment for consumers. Certain independent notified bodies are not required to evaluate any electrical equipment covered by this directive.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services under the 2014/35/EU Low Voltage Directive, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
