The legal regulation (EU) 2020/1245 published in the European Union countries amends the regulation (EU) 10/2011 on plastic materials and substances intended to come into contact with food.
According to this regulation, a transition period is foreseen for plastic materials and articles that comply with the regulation (EU) 2020/1245, which was valid before the regulation (EU) 10/2011 came into force.
For the purposes of this legal regulation, some of the food contact materials are already in contact with food. These are materials that are reasonably expected to come into contact with food or transfer its components to food under normal or foreseeable conditions of use. Since chemicals can migrate from materials to food, the safety of food contact materials must be evaluated. These materials are very diverse.
For example, it can be plastic, ceramics, glass, silicone, paper and cardboard, textiles, rubber, metal and alloy, coating, enamel, wood and bamboo and others. These materials must be produced in accordance with good manufacturing practices so as not to transfer their components to the food beyond the prescribed limits. Namely,
