The AMS 1424 standard, developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), describes the requirements for a de-icer and anti-icing material in the form of Newtonian fluid.
SAE AMS1424 Type I deicing fluid based on ethylene glycol is used to remove snow, ice, frost and other forms of frozen precipitation from aircraft surfaces. This ready-to-use liquid provides the lowest operational temperature of minus 24 degrees Celsius when applied to large high-speed jet aircraft.
New and more effective de-icing and anti-icing fluids are now used by large commercial aircraft companies. These liquids have different properties. It has longer retention times and is subject to different test criteria than previous fluid types. As a result, industry standards have also been updated to reflect these latest developments.
TFor many years, commercial aircraft operators have used de-icing and anti-icing fluids to prepare aircraft for safe take-off and flight in winter operations. The basic principles of de-icing and anti-icing are the same, including the importance of having a clean airplane on takeoff. New types of de-icing and anti-icing fluids have recently been developed to help operators better remove contamination such as frost, ice or snow.
De-icing and anti-icing fluids are developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) according to industry standards. In addition, the International Standards Organization (ISO) publishes similar standards. The SAE AMS 1424 and SAE AMS 1428 standards are specifications that contain performance requirements for de-icing and anti-icing fluids. The AMS 1424 standard applies to SAE Type I fluids and the AMS 1428 standard applies to SAE Type II, III and IV fluids.
These standards contain specifications for a fluid aerodynamic acceptance test jointly established by the American Aerospace Industries Association and the European Aerospace Industries Association.
Our organization also provides de-icing and anti-icing liquid testing services within the scope of AMS 1424 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
