Ozone Fastness and Ozone Yellowing Tests

Ozone Fastness and Ozone Yellowing Tests

In the ISO 105-G03 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), all types and shapes of textiles are protected against the effect of ozone in the atmosphere, both at ambient room temperatures with a relative humidity not exceeding 65 percent and at high temperatures with a relative humidity of over 80 percent. A test method is described to determine the resistance of the color of the products (ISO 105-G03 Textiles - Color fastness tests - Part G03: Color fastness to ozone in the atmosphere). If a sample is sensitive to this test, additional tests should be performed for this sensitivity within the framework of the following standards:

Ozone Fastness and Ozone Yellowing Tests

  • ISO 105-G01 Textiles - Color fastness tests - Part G01: Color fastness to nitrogen oxides
  • ISO 105-G02 Textiles - Color fastness tests - Part G02: Color fastness to burnt gas fumes

Ozone fading and ozone yellowing is a term used as a textile finishing process for denim fabrics. Ozone fading provides the advantage of fading with minimal or almost no loss of durability or strength. This method is based on the principle of bleaching laundry in the washing machine by dissolving ozone in water or using ozone in closed chambers during withering. This process is environmentally friendly, as ozonized water can be easily de-ozonized by UV radiation after washing.

Ozone typically acts as a mild bleaching agent as well as a sterilizing agent. In this denim washing technique, the garment is bleached with ozone dissolved in water in the washing machine. However, this technique can also be performed in a closed room using ozone gas.

Conventional bleaching of denim garments, which pollutes the water with solid particles and chemical compounds, consumes a significant amount of water and chemicals. Environmental concerns have led to a viable solution to reduce the effluent produced from the bleaching process. The use of ozone for denim production is the only way to reduce the amount of wastewater discharged. The oxidation potential of ozone in bleaching is quite high. Equipment used in ozone bleaching consists of three components: ozone generator, ozone applicator and ozone destroyer.

Our organization also provides ozone fastness and ozone yellowing testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
