Transformer Oil Tests

There are many different types of transformer oils. There is no single chemical name for all of them. Most are made up of organic compounds, including paraffins, naphthenes, olefins, aromatics, and natural and synthetic esters.

Transformer Oil Tests

Essentially, transformer oils are classified according to international standards such as IEC 60296 published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) (IEC 60296 Fluids for Electrotechnical applications - Mineral insulating oils for electrical equipment standard).

This standard provides specifications and test methods for unused and recycled mineral insulating oils. Applies to mineral oils (transformer oils) intended for use in transformers, switchgears and similar electrical equipment where oil is required for insulation and heat transfer.

In general, there are a number of classes that describe the use of transformer oils, additives, lowest cold start energizing temperatures, and more.

Transformer oils are used in oil-filled electrical transformers and protect their components against degradation and overheating in extreme hot, high-stress conditions. By preventing short-circuit and reducing wear, the lubricant reduces maintenance and replacement costs, optimizes electrical equipment performance, and ensures grid stability.

Energy grids and power systems are expected to perform consistently, whether they provide electricity for business or home life. Transformers are an essential part of this power infrastructure, but they must be insulated with lubricants to function properly and not overheat from the surge voltages running through them. Industrial transformer oils provide this protection, cool and insulate transformer components such as cores and windings. This provides protection against wear and corrosion, as well as dangerous overheating and deterioration of transformer materials.

Transformer oil tests performed in advanced laboratories help businesses detect anomalies in their production chains to increase productivity and performance. The main transformer oil properties emphasized in these tests are: insulation strength, oxidation resistance, flash point, sludge formation, sulfur level, purity levels, cooling properties, biodegradability and dielectric breakdown voltage.

Our organization also provides transformer oil testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
