The BR designation used to define armored vehicles is defined in the DIN EN 1063 standard published by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and includes the protection levels of bulletproof glass for armored vehicles. This standard specifies classes BR1 to BR7 for the classification of bullet resistance of glass and glass/plastic composites consisting of one or more layers of glass, determined according to the level of protection offered. For example, a panel that meets the requirements specified for a particular class also meets those specified for previous classes. Shotgun classes do not meet the requirements specified in the BR classes because the ammunition is different.

The protection provided by bullet resistant glass is not only for the product itself, but also for the
The term bulletproof glass applies to products with the obvious properties of glass, but also includes laminated products of glass and plastic, and insulating glass units.
A bullet shot through a bulletproof glass layer can puncture the outer layer of glass. But the polycarbonate in the middle layer absorbs the energy of the bullet, stopping the bullet before it leaves the final layer. Bullet stopping ability of bullet resistant glass is determined by glass thickness. For example, a rifle bullet collides with glass with much greater force than a bullet from a gun.
Bulletproof glasses are produced with different techniques. But what they all have in common is the placement of a layer of polycarbonate material between ordinary glass pieces, through a process called lamination.
To be classified into a certain classification, the glass must be placed at a distance of 120 mm from each other, stopping the projectile for the specified number of hits. The glass should also be unbreakable and not shatter after each impact. Finally, the classification levels are numbered in order of increasing protective strength. Thus, any sample that meets the requirements of a class is also considered to comply with the requirements of previous classes. However, SG (shotgun classes are not necessarily compatible with BR classes).
