The MIL-HDBK-516C standard, a United States military defense standard, describes the airworthiness certification criteria used to determine the airworthiness of all manned and unmanned, fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems. This standard is a basic standard used by the systems program manager, chief engineer and contractors to define the airworthiness certification basis of air systems.

In this standard, airworthiness certification criteria are intended to be all-inclusive and to understand the minimum set of safety criteria required for an aircraft system. The criteria applicable to the aircraft system cannot be deleted or changed in any way. However, considering system or product complexity, type, data availability, and intended lifetime, the sole manager and chief engineer may adapt these criteria by identifying specific criteria that are not applicable, as appropriate. The sole manager and chief engineer can also develop additional criteria to further reduce risks to system security, if appropriate for a particular application.
This manual should be applied at any point during the life cycle of an air system where an airworthiness determination is required, particularly when there is a change in the functional or product baseline.
Each air system configuration, including but not limited to manned, unmanned, fixed or rotary wing, must meet flight safety airworthiness certification requirements. Therefore, criteria have been established for such systems to ensure that minimum design levels are established for safe operation and maintenance. For unmanned aerial vehicles, flight safety risks of loss of crew do not apply. However, as with manned aircraft, the flight safety risk associated with personnel must take into account damage to equipment, property or the environment. Unmanned aircraft carrying crew or passengers are subject to the same airworthiness certification requirements as manned aircraft.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services related to airworthiness certification criteria under the MIL-HDBK-516C standard, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
