MIL-DTL-12560K Detail Specifications: Steel, Forged, Homogeneous Armor Plate (For Use in Combat Vehicles and Ammunition Testing)
The MIL-DTL-12560K standard, a United States military defense standard, covers forged steel homogeneous armor plate from 0,098 inches to 6.000 inches thick.

On the other hand, this standard is also used for purposes such as:
- For use in combat vehicles and for thicknesses ordered from 0.250 inches to 12.000 inches thick
- For use in proof and acceptance testing of armor-destroying ammunition
Forged armor must be in the following classes as specified in the contract or purchase order:
- Class 1: Forged armor plate with an ordered thickness of 0.098 to 6.000 inches that has been heat treated to develop maximum puncture resistance.
- Class 2: Forged armor plate with an ordered thickness of 0.098 to 2.000 inches, heat treated to develop maximum resistance to impact.
- Class 3: Forged armor plate with an ordered thickness of 0.250 to 12.000 inches, which is heat treated to develop certain hardness and impact values for the sole purpose of evaluating armor-destroying ammunition.
- Class 4a: Forged armor plate with an ordered thickness of 1 to 0.098 inches designed for better puncture resistance than Class 2.750.
- Grade 4b: Air-hardened and auto-tempered forged armor plate in thickness ordered from 1 to 0.098 inches, designed for better puncture resistance than Class 2.750.
The main test methods performed under this standard are:
- Chemical analysis (according to ASTM A751 standard)
- Brinell hardness tests (according to ASTM E10 or ASTM E110 standards)
- Charpy V-notch impact tests (according to ASTM E23 and ASTM A370)
- Bending test (according to ASTM E290)
- Decarburization tests (according to ASTM E1077)
- Ballistic testing: The ballistic testing of the armor plate is carried out at an official institution, unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order. Testing requirements are included in the annex to this standard.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer steel, forging, and homogeneous armor plate testing services for military vehicles under the MIL-DTL-12560K standard, utilizing a trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
