ASME PCC-2-2022 Pressure Equipment and Piping Repair

ASME PCC-2-2022 Pressure Equipment and Piping Repair

The "ASME PCC-2-2022 Pressure equipment and piping repair" standard, developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), describes methods for repairing equipment, pipelines and related auxiliary equipment within the scope of "ASME Pressure technology codes and standards" after they are placed into service. These repair methods include relevant design, manufacturing, inspection and testing practices and can be temporary or permanent depending on the conditions.

ASME PCC-2-2022 Pressure Equipment and Piping Repair

The methods provided in this standard address the repair of components when repair is deemed necessary based on appropriate inspection and defect assessment. These inspection and defect assessment methods are not addressed in this standard, but are addressed in other post-construction codes and standards.

This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to determine appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Only technical procedures and information are provided in this standard; administrative or policy requirements are outside the scope of this standard.

Essentially, this standard is divided into five parts:

  • Part 1 covers organization and purpose and is applicable to all clauses in this standard.
  • Section 2 covers repair methods and techniques that involve the use of welding, brazing, soldering or other methods involving metal deposition.
  • Section 3 covers mechanical repairs with or without sealant, such as bolted clamps or fixtures, and includes all repair methods not covered in Section 2 or Section 4.
  • Section 4 covers repairs by non-metallic means, e.g. bonding, including non-metallic liners and dressings, and bonding of metallic components (e.g. epoxy bonding).
  • Chapter 5 covers examination and testing methods and techniques.

This standard provides technical information, procedures, and recommendations for repair methods that are recognized by consensus and generally accepted as good engineering practices. In cases where equipment repair is subject to jurisdictional regulation, jurisdictional approvals may be required.

For example, the subheadings of the first three chapters include:

  • Part 1 Scope, organization and purpose
