REMI SPEC M-7253 Round Copper Magnet Wire with Heavy Polyester/Polyamide-Imide Insulation Film - 220 Degrees Resistant

REMI SPEC M-7253 Round Copper Magnet Wire with Heavy Polyester/Polyamide-Imide Insulation Film - 220 Degrees Resistant

REMY International, Inc., a global designer, manufacturer, remanufacturer, marketer, and distributor of vehicle parts, developed the standard "REMI SPEC M-7253 Material specification - Round copper magnet wire with heavy polyester/polyamide-imide insulation film - 220 degree resistant" for round copper magnet wire insulated with a heavy polyester insulation film coated with polyamide-imide. The polyamide-imide overcoating provides 35 percent of the total film thickness.

REMI SPEC M-7253 Round Copper Magnet Wire with Heavy Polyester/Polyamide-Imide Insulation Film - 220 Degrees Resistant

The wire is for use in electrical equipment manufacturing. The thermal index rating of the material shall be 220°C when tested in accordance with this standard.

Control features requiring process control should consist of bare wire diameter, overall diameter, film adhesion and flexibility, film cure, and maintenance process for approved insulation.

Materials approved for this standard must comply with the requirements listed in the “REMY 10505000 Declarable substances” specification.

Current industry specifications that can be used to define this material standard are:

  • ANSI/NEMA MW 1000-2020 American national standard for magnet wire
  • NEMA MW37C Polyester (amide)(imide) insulated round copper magnet wire covered with polyamideimide film

Within the scope of this standard, the material composition is as follows:

  • Element composition: Copper magnet wire
  • Physical composition: The outer insulation layer is a heavy film coating consisting of polyester with a polyamide-imide top coating

In this standard, the performance and durability requirements are specified as follows:

  • Performance requirements:
    • Resistance test (according to ASTM B3-01 standard): maximum 0,15328 Ohm-gm/m^2.
    • Film adhesion and flexibility test (according to NEMA MW-37C standard): There should be no cracks after stretching and inspection according to the table.
    • Heat shock resistance (according to NEMA MW-37C standard): After pre-stressing according to the table and after exposure to a minimum of 240 degrees for 30 minutes, the film should not crack.
    • Elongation test (according to NEMA MW-37C standard): The minimum elongation of the finished wire shall be as per the table when extended to the point of break. The springback shall be less than the table value (when wound as per the table).
    • Film continuity test (per NEMA MW-37C standard): Less than 5 faults at 1000 Volts DC for AWG 14-24, 750 Volts DC for AWG 31-35, or 500 Volts DC for AWG 36-44 over 30,5 m.
    • Solubility resistance (per NEMA MW-37C standard): Samples immersed in xylene and 50/50 xylene/butyl Cellosolve shall not soften sufficiently to expose the bare conductor.
    • Scratch resistance (per NEMA MW-37C standard): The lowest failure load in grams of three tests and the average load of three tests shall not be less than the value listed in the table.
    • Film thermoplastic flow or shear resistance (according to NEMA MW-37C standard): The median temperature of the thermoplastic flow should be greater than 325 degrees Celsius.
    • Dimensions (per NEMA MW-37C standard): The bare wire diameter, overall diameter, and film dimensions of the finished wire shall conform to the table.
  • Durability requirements:
    • Thermal index rating (according to NEMA MW 37-C standard): Should be 220 degrees Celsius.
    • Dielectric breakdown (per NEMA MW-37C standard): Using the twisted pair method, the lowest should not be less than the value in the table.
    • Dielectric breakdown (per NEMA MW-37C standard) at nominal temperature (220 degrees Celsius): The average of five samples shall not be less than 75 percent of the tabulated value.
  • Other requirements:
    • The number of splices in a spool, coil, or drum package should be kept to a minimum. Splices should be soldered or welded with silver solder. The surface of the wire at the splice should be smooth and properly insulated. The diameter of the wire at the splice should be approximately the same as at any other point on the wire. The tensile strength of the wire at or near the splice should be at least 80 percent of the tensile strength of the wire one meter from the splice.
    • Wire should be placed on spools, reels, or drums as specified in the purchase order. Wire should be packaged in a manner that will prevent damage during shipping or storage.
    • Each spool, coil, or drum must be marked with the manufacturer's name, AWG size, and insulation. Each pallet or shipping carton must contain the AWG size and insulation, the date of packing, the number of spools, coils, or drums, and the gross, empty, and net weights in accordance with this standard.
    • Any material that does not meet these specifications may be rejected.

In short, the REMI M-7253 standard is important because it provides a uniform method for the sampling and analysis of iron oxides, particularly red iron oxide pigments. This standard ensures consistency, quality, and safety in the production and application of these pigments, which are widely used in industries such as construction, coatings, plastics, and ceramics. This standard is considered important for the following reasons:

  • Quality control: This standard specifies specific testing procedures for color strength, fineness, moisture content, oil absorption, pH, water-soluble salts, and hiding power. This helps manufacturers maintain consistent product quality across batches.
  • Consistency across industries: End users in industries such as paint manufacturing, concrete coloring, and plastic pigmentation can be trusted to deliver uniform pigment performance when standards are met.
  • Technical and commercial specifications: Helps manufacturers and buyers agree on specifications and tolerances, reduce disputes, and ensure the product meets contract requirements.
  • Legal regulations uCompliance: In markets where compliance with standards is mandatory, the REMI M-7253 standard serves as a recognized benchmark for demonstrating product reliability and safety.
  • Competitive benchmarking: For manufacturers, complying with this standard provides a competitive advantage by aligning with international expectations for standard testing.

As a result, companies working with iron oxide pigments (whether they produce or use them) have the assurance that they are working with tested, reliable and standardized material in accordance with the REMI M-7253 standard.
