The European standard “EN 29367-1 Mooring and securing arrangements for road vehicles used in maritime transport on Ro/Ro ships - General requirements - Part 1: Commercial vehicles and vehicle combinations, excluding semi-trailers (ISO 9367-1)” describes the minimum requirements that allow road vehicles to be efficiently moored and secured on “roll-on/roll-off” ships.

This standard applies to goods vehicles, semi-trailer towing vehicles, road trains and vehicle combinations with a maximum authorised total mass of vehicle and cargo between 1176 t and 3,5 t, as defined in the standard "ISO 40 Road vehicles - Masses - Vocabulary and codes" published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Passenger cars, buses and special vehicles are not within the scope of this standard.
The EN 29367-1 standard lays down the minimum requirements to ensure the effective mooring and securing of road vehicles on tugs or pushers and defines in particular the mooring equipment on the vehicle and the method of securing used. In addition, for the information of vehicle designers, a layout plan of the mooring point commonly used on tugs and pushers in accordance with the international recommendations of the International Maritime Organization is included in the annex of the standard (Annex A).
Ro/Ro ships, also known as “roll-on roll-off” ships, are a type of cargo or ferry ship specifically designed to carry vehicles such as cars, trucks, trailers, and four-wheeled cargo. The term “roll-on roll-off” refers to the method of loading and unloading the ship, as vehicles enter and exit the ship via ramps. The ramps used to load and unload cargo are usually hydraulically operated and provide easy access for vehicles to enter and exit the ship. Ro/Ro ships are often used to transport vehicles and other wheeled cargo across oceans.
Ro/Ro lashing and securing equipment plays a vital role in securing vehicles and other cargo during transport, especially on ships designed for easy loading and unloading. Lashing equipment is basically equipment for securing vehicles, such as trailer hooks, lashing chains, chain tensioners, trailer twist locks, trailer and car tire chocks or car and trailer nets. Both loose and fixed equipment are integral components of Ro-Ro lashing systems and ensure the safe transportation of vehicles in marine environments. They are designed to ensure the stability and safety of vehicles during marine transportation, whether loose or fixed. The combination of these elements provides a comprehensive solution for securing various types of cargo on Ro/Ro ships, contributing to the efficiency and reliability of marine logistics.
According to the IS0 9367 standard, passenger cars, buses, special vehicles (only tractors) or commercial vehicles that are not intended to be carried on Ro/Ro vessels but are transported without cargo for delivery purposes only are excluded from the scope of this standard. Road vehicles with characteristics outside the general parameters (especially where the normal height of the centre of gravity is exceeded) require special consideration of the location and number of anchorage points.
In line with the objectives of the EN 29367-1 standard,
The general requirements are:
Among the numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the standard “EN 29367-1 Mooring and securing arrangements for road vehicles used in maritime transport on Ro/Ro vessels - General requirements - Part 1: Commercial vehicles and vehicle combinations, excluding semi-trailers (ISO 9367-1)” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
