The standard “ASTM F2058-07 Standard Specification for Candle Fire Safety Labeling” published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) describes the requirements for fire safety information to be placed on candle units offered for sale. This standard also includes requirements that retailers and distributors must comply with. However, this standard is not intended to address any other labeling requirements.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
Fire safety warnings help prevent fires by ensuring consumers are provided with information about the safe use of candles.
This standard does not apply to birthday candles or candles designed for places of worship, commercial establishments or industrial use.
In principle, the fire safety warning must be placed on the sales unit and visible to the consumer at the point of sale. The fire safety warning must not be covered, obstructed or removed by the manufacturer, distributor or retailer. If the sales unit consists of only one candle (including its container, if applicable), the fire safety warning must be visible on, below or to one side of the candle or attached to the candle.
If the sales unit consists of a candle and its packaging:
The fire safety warning must be clearly distinct from its background. The fire safety warning does not have to be limited to a specific shape. It can fit the shape of the overall label to make the most efficient use of available space. It is possible to outline the fire safety warning with a border.
There are two fire safety warning options. One is a text only option, the other is a text and pictorial option. All sales units must comply with one of these two labeling options.
The fire safety warning statements specified in this standard represent the minimum fire safety warning requirements. Additional appropriate manufacturer warnings or instructions are permitted. These warnings or instructions may precede or follow the fire safety warning or appear elsewhere on the sales unit but may not interrupt the fire safety warning.
The total surface area of the warning panel determines the minimum letter height, graphic symbol size and content of the fire safety warning.
A text-only fire safety warning consists of the word "WARNING" in bold capital letters immediately following the safety alert symbol, followed by the following fire safety alert phrases or their practical equivalents in this order: keep within sight, keep away from flammable materials, keep out of reach of children. These phrases are permitted to appear one above the other or in paragraph form.
