A test method for measuring flame propagation using a large ignition source of vertically oriented textile fabrics intended for curtains and drapes in the form of single or multi-component fabrics (coated, quilted, multi-layered, sandwich construction and similar combinations) in the European standard EN 13772. is offered.

Curtains are the simplest and most cost-effective way to decorate residences and control light entering a room from outside. Curtains are produced from different fabrics such as cotton, silk or synthetic depending on the use. Therefore, they pose a fire hazard when exposed to an ignition source such as a lit candle or cigarette.
Curtains are not a building material and are not included in the ongoing European standardization in the field of reaction to fire with regard to the building products directive. However, curtains play an important role in the spread of fire between buildings and must meet the minimum requirements for fire safety in European Union countries. For this reason, the test methods applied for the burning behavior of curtains are harmonized at the European level.
In the case of low-risk areas, two methods have been published to measure the flammability and flame spread of curtains, both using a small flame as the ignition source. However, ignition may occur through larger ignition sources for high-risk areas. Unfortunately, no test methods are available for this.
Curtains are mainly tested to determine if they are likely to catch fire when exposed to a flame. This flammability test is used to evaluate whether the curtains are safe, ie ensuring that they do not pose a danger to humans in normal use or foreseeable misuse.
Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, also provides the measurement of flame spread of vertically oriented curtains and cover samples with large ignition source within the scope of EN 13772 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
