The EN 1335 standard, which is a European standard, consists of four parts under the main title "Office furniture - Office desk chair":

The EN 1335-2 standard describes the safety and durability requirements for office work chairs. This standard does not apply to other seating in the office area where other European standards exist. Requirements are based on 110 hours of use per day by persons weighing up to 8 kg. Loads, masses and cycles for functional tests are included in the standard annex (Annex A).
Ergonomic office desk chairs are designed to fit people of different builds, but there is no guarantee that they will fit any particular person. For example, a seat may be too high and the arm too far for a short person. Also, the seats may not be suitable for every task in the workstation. A chair becomes ergonomic only when it is particularly suited to an employee's body dimensions, the particular workstation, and the tasks that must be performed there. All of these factors should be considered when deciding which seat to use. This is also important for the safety of the seat.
An office chair must meet these health and safety requirements:
In short, this standard defines the safety, strength, and durability requirements for all types of non-residential seating, including office visitor chairs. It does not apply to row chairs, office work chairs, seating for educational institutions, outdoor seating, or connected seating groups. Furthermore , this standard does not include requirements for resistance to aging, deterioration, and flammability.
