EN 14073 Office Furniture - Storage Furniture

The EN 14073 standard, which is a European standard, consists of the following subsections under the main heading of "Office furniture - Storage furniture":

EN 14073 Office Furniture - Storage Furniture

  • CEN/TR 14073-1 Part 1: Dimensions
  • EN 14073-2 Part 2: Safety requirements
  • EN 14073-3 Part 3: Test methods for determining the strength and rigidity of the structure

In the CEN/TR 14073-1 standard, recommendations are made for the dimensions of office storage furniture. The dimensions described are based on the dimensions of the various products that will be stored in the furniture, i.e. data storage ways. The standard annex gives some examples of storage furniture (Annex A). This standard does not apply to high-density mechanized filing systems, rotary filing systems, or drawing office storage furniture.

The EN 14073-2 standard describes safety requirements for office storage furniture. This standard does not apply to high-density mechanized filing systems, rotary filing systems, or plan files. Fulfillment of the stated requirements is dependent on whether the fault has not occurred as a result of habitual misuse or after an excessively long service period. The security attached to the structure of the building is not included, for example, the strength of wall-hung cabinets includes only the cabinet and its parts. Wall and wall bracket not included. Aging assessment is also outside the scope of this standard. Storage furniture should be designed to minimize the risk of injury in normal use. This standard contains safety requirements for office storage furniture and parts only where they are heavy and are likely to cause injury if dropped from a considerable distance. This is possible if floor-standing units are out of balance, wall- or display-mounted units are detached, or heavy parts are separated from the units.

The EN 14073-3 standard defines test methods for determining the strength of the structure of free-standing or curtained and wall-hung office storage furniture, as well as the stability of free-standing units. This test method is not applicable to high-density mechanized filing systems, rotary filing systems, or plan files. The tests are intended to simulate excessive balancing forces and structural loads that can occur during normal functional use, as well as misuse that would reasonably be expected to occur. Safety requirements are included in the EN 14073-2 standard. Aging assessment is outside the scope of this standard. The tests specified in this standard are designed to be applied to a fully assembled and ready-to-use piece of furniture.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides storage furniture testing services among office furniture within the scope of EN 14073 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
