EC 2023/2006 Analysis of Materials Intended to Contact with Food

Directive EC 2023/2006 sets out the rules for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for materials and articles in contact with food. Good manufacturing practices encompass quality assurance aspects that ensure materials and articles conform to quality standards, do not endanger human health, or cause unacceptable changes in the composition of food.

EC 2023/2006 Analysis of Materials Intended to Contact with Food

Regulation EC 2023/2006 applies to all sectors and all stages of manufacture, processing and distribution of materials and articles. All interested companies must:

  • Adhere to good manufacturing practices (good manufacturing practices include items that may come into contact with food, such as containers, packaging, paper, cardboard, ink and adhesives).
  • Establish and implement an effective and documented quality assurance system (a quality assurance system is an organized and documented arrangement that ensures that materials and articles meet the required quality).
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of quality control (quality control systems include: following good manufacturing practices and identifying and correcting measures that fall below the required standards).
  • Establish and maintain appropriate paper or electronic records on specifications, formulations and processing relating to the safety of the individual product and various manufacturing operations.

Directive EC 2023/2006 lays down a specific quality assurance system for recycled plastic materials and articles that come into contact with food. Essentially, quality assurance systems take into account:

  • Knowledge and skills of staff and organization of building and equipment
  • Size the business to prevent them from becoming an excessive burden.

In short, this legal act lays down the rules on good manufacturing practices (GMP) for materials and groups of articles intended to come into contact with food listed in the annex of Directive (EC) 1935/2004 and combinations of these materials and articles or recycled materials. These rules apply to all sectors and all stages of manufacture, processing and distribution of materials and objects, with the exception of the production of starting materials.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, also provides material analysis services that are intended to come into contact with food, EC 2023/2006, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
