Calculation of Energy Value in Foods

Consumed foods provide people with energy. These foods provide energy to the cells in the body, thus giving energy to people. For this, primarily carbohydrates from food are used. When all is depleted, the body then uses fats and then proteins as an energy source. In other words, carbohydrates, fats and proteins are energy sources found in foods.

The energy in food is measured in kilocalories or calorie units. A calorie is actually 1000 calories (cal) or 1 kilocalorie (kcal).

Today, nutritional labels are mandatory for many packaged foods marketed internationally. Nutritional data generally focuses on the number of calories in the food, the amount of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, and the calorie content per gram of each energy source. The unit kcal/g is generally used to determine the energy content of the food. Advanced techniques are used in sophisticated laboratories to determine this. A food sample is placed in a steel container containing oxygen. Then, a measured amount of water is added to the compartment surrounding the container. The energy value is determined based on the mass of the food and water and the increase in temperature.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are services to calculate the energy value in foods.
