Detection of Horse DNA in Food

Detection of Horse DNA in Food

In recent years, the qPCR-based DNA analysis method has been successfully applied to a wide variety of food testing scenarios, including GMO testing, mixed meat products, species identification in animal feeds, and detection of microbial contaminants. Recently, there has been talk of new sequencing-based food testing methods that use genome sequencing and the bioinformatics approach to try to identify all the DNA in a food item. Compared to older methods such as microscopy, protein analysis, and microbial culture, qPCR and sequencing-based food testing methods offer numerous advantages such as time savings, specificity, sensitivity, and automation.

When using a rank-based method, it is not necessary to know what to look for to find it. Theoretically, every DNA-based component in a food item can be identified, provided it has a match in the information database.

qPCR-based approaches are used to search for specific DNA types in food products. A real-time PCR-based method is used to identify pork, chicken, horse meat, beef, and lamb in mixed meat and processed food samples. With this method, individual species can be detected at the level of 1 percent in mixtures mixed with various target meats.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also services to search for horse DNA in foods.
