The transfer of chemicals from food contact materials to food is called migration. Migration testing is applied in food production facilities to determine whether chemicals are transferred from food packaging and production equipment to food.

If chemicals or compounds pass from food packaging materials or production equipment to food, food safety and quality are compromised. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent substances that come into contact with food from reacting with food. Food packaging and production equipment must be produced in a structure that basically prevents migration. Chemicals must not enter the food, including all areas of contact with food. Migration tests are performed for this purpose.
There is no limitation on the validity period of the migration test for packaged foods. It should be done at regular intervals for organic foods, but once for a packaged product is sufficient.
In this regard, the following circular no. 2019/43 published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is complied with: Turkish Food Codex circular on the list of food simulants used in migration testing of components of plastic materials and substances in contact with food.
The migration test is a mandatory test for facilities producing food packaging. It performs different tests for aqueous, alcoholic, fatty and acidic foodstuffs in laboratories. There are other testing processes for plastic, ceramic or metal packaging materials.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Migration test services are among the numerous tests carried out in this context.
