(EC) No. 643/2009 Regulation Tests

In this legal regulation, eco-design requirements are explained for the placing on the market of electrical network-operated household cooling devices with a storage volume of up to 1500 liters. This regulation applies to mains powered household refrigeration appliances, including those sold for non-domestic use or for cooling non-food items. It is also applied to household type cooling devices that can be operated with batteries and work with electricity.
However, this legal regulation does not apply to:
- Refrigeration devices primarily powered by energy sources other than electricity, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), kerosene, and bio-diesel fuels
- Battery operated cooling devices that can be connected to the mains via a separately purchased AC/DC converter
- One-off and custom-made cooling devices not equivalent to other cooling device models
- Refrigeration devices for third sector application where the removal of chilled foodstuffs is electronically sensed and information is automatically transmitted via a network connection to a remote control system for accounting
- Appliances whose primary function is not the storage of foodstuffs by refrigeration, such as self-contained icemakers or chilled beverage dispensers
For the purposes of this legal regulation,
- A domestic refrigeration appliance refers to an insulated cabinet with one or more compartments, which is cooled by one or more energy-consuming processes, designed for the refrigeration, freezing of foodstuffs, or the storage of refrigerated or frozen foodstuffs for non-professional purposes, including appliances sold.
- Refrigerator refers to a cooling device for preserving foodstuffs, with at least one compartment suitable for the storage of fresh food and beverages, including wine.
- Compression type refrigeration device refers to a refrigeration device in which cooling is carried out by means of a motor-driven compressor.
