EN 13279-1, a European standard, describes definitions and requirements for gypsum binders and gypsum plasters. This standard includes the properties and performance criteria of gypsum binder-based powder products used in construction.

Gypsum plasters covered by this standard are pre-mixed gypsum building plasters for plastering walls and ceilings inside buildings where they are applied as a finishing material for decoration.
Such gypsum plasters are specially formulated for application using additives, aggregates and other binder materials. The scope of this standard includes gypsum and gypsum-based building plasters used for manual and mechanical applications.
The EN 13279-1 standard also covers gypsum binders used for direct on-site use, on the one hand, and for further processing such as gypsum blocks, gypsum boards, fiber-reinforced gypsum boards, gypsum fiber plasterwork and gypsum ceiling elements. It also includes gypsum mortar used for interior partitions that are not exposed to water and are not load-bearing.
This European standard includes reference tests to determine technical specifications. These tests are intended to evaluate the conformity of products covered by the standard.
The important point here is that if the gypsum binder is the main active binder component in a plaster, this plaster is accepted within the scope of this standard. However, if the main active binder component in a plaster is construction lime, then the plaster is evaluated within the scope of EN 998-1 standard (EN 998-1 Masonry mortar - Properties - Part 1: Rough and fine plaster mortar).
Within the framework of this standard, the types of gypsum binders and gypsum plasters are as follows:
In the EN 13279-1 standard, the requirements are regulated under the following headings:
- Requirements in connection with end-use conditions
- Requirements for plaster binders
- Requirements for gypsum plasters
- Requirements for special purpose gypsum plasters
Our organization also provides testing services for gypsum binders and gypsum plasters within the scope of EN 13279-1 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
