TS 11668 Paper Towels

In the TS 11668 standard published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE), the type and characteristics of towels made of soft tissue paper, sampling methods and requirements for marking are explained and test methods are defined.

TS 11668 Paper Towels

The best paper towels are characterized by certain physical properties such as strength, scrub resistance, absorbency, weight, softness, water filtration capacity, and thickness. Among these, absorbency is the most important. Paper towels are one of the most widely used paper products. They are mostly used in kitchens or bathrooms. People prefer to use paper towels in these areas, especially because of their special absorbent structure, which distinguishes them from other paper products.

Characterization of towel surface properties is essential for understanding surface and interface phenomena such as adhesion between a binder and surface, wetting of a liquid, printing and coating. Surface properties include surface roughness and surface friction. Common uses for paper towels include wiping up spills and removing stains while maintaining a good hand feel. Crepe and rise are the two main processes to improve performance characteristics. However, these processes also generate surface roughness, namely the micro-scale roughness profile and the macro-scale roughness profile. Among them is micro-scale roughness, which affects volume, softness and absorbency. A product with relatively low surface friction on the upper side of the towels for hand feel and relatively high surface friction on the lower side for wiping spills and removing stains should be preferred.

Paper towels are made from the same types of plant fibers that other types of paper are made from. The difference between paper towels and other types of paper is that the paper fibers are mixed with a special type of resin to keep them strong when wet. For this reason, paper towels do not tear as easily as tissue paper when wet. Once the leaves are made, they have shapes pressed into them to make them look quilted. These shapes create air pockets to attract water. That's why paper towels are so absorbent.

Our organization also provides testing services for paper towels within the scope of TS 11668 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
