Shoe Tests

Testing shoes for chemicals used in production and transportation is an important task for manufacturers and suppliers to ensure that products meet regulatory requirements for consumer health and safety regarding restrictions on certain toxic chemicals.

Shoe Tests

The registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction (REACH) of chemicals also applies to footwear. For example, more than twenty toxic aromatic amines derived from azo dyes commonly used in the manufacture of fabrics for shoes and other textiles are severely restricted under REACH application. The limit for aromatic amines is 30 mg/kg per product.

In shoe manufacturing, dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is used as an antifungal agent to prevent mold from growing on the product while it is being stored or transported. This chemical compound is a chemical substance placed in desiccant bags (silica bags) placed in shoe packaging by manufacturers.

However, the toxicity of dimethyl fumarate compound is high and therefore it causes allergic reactions, acute eczema and skin burns. The use of this chemical is prohibited in European Union countries with the directive numbered 2009/251/EC. Therefore, companies that ship shoes to European Union countries are required to have DMF tests performed on product samples to avoid the risk of product recalls or rejection by customs and health authorities.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Shoe testing services are among the numerous tests carried out in this context.
