E-type retaining rings / circlips, defined in the DIN 6799 standard published by the German Standardization Institute (DIN), are radial retaining rings used on small axles / shafts and pushed into a groove on the shaft. They got this name because they resemble the letter "E". The three prongs are in contact with the trough, providing a stable and strong shoulder to hold the assembly effectively.

Requirements for E-type retaining rings are included in the DIN 6799 standard under the following headings:
An E-ring is a type of retaining ring whose open ends snap into place. Segments are spring loaded fasteners that fit into the radial grooves of shafts and bores and keep them securely in place.
E-rings are equipment used for projects such as car engines and locking mechanisms. These are large retaining rings and hold parts on a shaft when fitted in a groove.
E-type retaining rings are used to replace the need for mechanical fasteners (nuts, split pins, rivets, and the like) and generally reduce the weight of an assembly. These rings typically offer a longer service life. The three lugs of an E-ring contact the bottom of the groove and form a shoulder to effectively hold the assemblies. Unlike a spring-loaded retaining ring, which must be moved along the axis of a shaft or rod to remove it, an E-ring can be easily removed from the side without moving the axis.
E-type retaining rings are manufactured from many different materials, including copper, stainless steel, carbon steel and alloy steel, depending on the requirement for corrosion resistance for the application. These components are widely used in machinery, from simple hand tools to complex aircraft. They are also widely used in transportation and railway systems due to their easy installation and disassembly advantages.
Our organization also provides testing services for E-type fastening rings within the scope of DIN 6799 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
