DIN 467 Flat Knurled Nuts, Low Type

DIN 467 Flat Knurled Nuts, Low Type

The DIN 467 standard published by the German Standardization Institute (DIN) describes the requirements for low-type knurled nuts. Flat knurled nuts made of stainless steel are suitable for universal use and can be easily tightened and loosened without tools. In addition to the types defined in the DIN standard, an M12 threaded nut is also produced.

These knurled nuts are generally produced in three types:

  • DIN 467 Flat knurled nuts, steel, blackened
  • DIN 467 Flat knurled nuts, steel, zinc-plated
  • DIN 467 Stainless steel flat knurled nuts

Requirements for high type knurled nuts are included in the DIN 464 standard under the following headings:

  • Mechanical properties of stainless steel for low type flat knurled nuts
  • Chemical composition of stainless steel for low type flat knurled nuts
  • Mechanical properties of steel for low type flat knurled nuts
  • Chemical composition of steel for low type flat knurled nuts

Stainless steels are divided into three groups: austenitic, ferritic, and martensitic. Austenitic steel is by far the most common type (over 90 percent of commercial fasteners). Steel groups and strength classes are indicated by four-digit letters and numbers, as shown in the table included in the standard.

The pattern around flat serrated nuts does not affect nut operation when wet or coated with oil. For this reason, a knurled nut is preferred for adjustable mechanisms found in equipment where water and petroleum products often come into contact with components. These nuts generally retain the sharp edges of the caterpillars, even after many years of use.

Knurled nuts are widely used in all applications where fasteners need to be removed regularly but are not required for structural support. It is generally found on precision measuring instruments, electrical panel covers and service covers. These nuts increase ease of removal, prevent over-tightening and do not require any tools.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for flat knurled nuts (low type) within the scope of DIN 467 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
