DIN 444 Eye Bolts

DIN 444 Eye Bolts

Eye bolts defined in the DIN 444 standard published by the German Standardization Institute (DIN) are bolts with an eye (ring) on one end and a threaded shank on the other end. The ring is threaded into a pre-drilled hole or secured to a structure with a nut so that a string or cable can be attached to the end. Only shoulder eye bolts are used to support angular loads.

DIN 444 Eye Bolts

The requirements for eye bolts are included in the DIN 444 standard under the following headings:

  • Mechanical properties of stainless steel for eyebolts
  • Chemical composition of stainless steel for eyebolts
  • Mechanical properties of steel for eyebolts
  • Chemical composition of steel for eyebolts

Eyebolts are used as an attachment point for fastening, pulling, pushing or lifting applications. These bolts are widely used in industrial applications.

Generally, eye bolts are manufactured in different design configurations depending on the application and intended use. They consist of three basic parts. At the top is the eye ring, which can be bent, welded, or forged. The shoulder is the part where the eye and body meet, designed to be resistant to bending. The body is the threaded section that attaches to the eye. It is necessary to ensure that the selected eye bolt meets the working load limit for that job.

Eye bolts are generally produced in two types as shoulder bolts and non-shoulder bolts.

Stainless steels are divided into three groups as austenitic, ferritic and martensitic. Austenitic steel is by far the most common type (more than 90 percent of commercial fasteners). Steel groups and strength classes are indicated with four-digit letters and numbers as shown in the table in the standard.

The use of austenitic group stainless steel is as follows:

  • Steel of strength class 50, A1, A2, is used for soft, cold worked, turned and soft pressed fasteners.
  • Steel of strength class 70, A2, A4, cold worked, is used for normal strength fasteners.
  • Strength class 80, A2, A4 steel, extreme cold worked, high strength, special applications.

Our organization also provides testing services for eye bolts within the scope of DIN 444 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
