DIN 315 Fasteners, Wing Nuts, Round Wings

In the DIN 315 standard published by the German Standardization Institute (DIN), the dimensional and technical requirements of round winged wing nuts are explained and their definitions are given.

DIN 315 Fasteners, Wing Nuts, Round Wings

Wing nuts have a small head and large wings for easy manual installation. Wing nuts are also used with thumbscrews to create a fastening that can be easily adjusted from both sides. Manufacturers of these nuts have a wide range of stainless steel and stainless steel wing nuts with the option of chemical black coating. Special materials such as titanium and natural nylon wing nuts are also used.

In the later update of this standard, the distinction between heavy-duty and light-duty type was abandoned, instead the structural dimensions of wing nuts and wing screws were chosen to cover the most common production series in terms of tolerance. In this way, the components were revised again due to dimensions and tolerances. In addition, specifications for the weight of wing nuts and wing screws have been omitted from the standards because the wide tolerance ranges of individual dimensions do not allow any weight to be specified.

Meanwhile, for wing screws made of steel, no property class has been selected according to the DIN ISO 898-1 standard, since the requirements and tests for these property classes are not applicable in the relevant standard. In the case of wing nuts made of steel, the standard DIN ISO 898-2 is complied with, and in the case of components made of malleable cast iron or copper-zinc alloys, the appropriate materials are specified.

Based on established practice, the manufacture of thumbscrews made from two separate pieces is permitted as before, provided that the connection between the two pieces is properly designed and thumbscrews are used.

The DIN 315 standard contains different sub-sections. For example, DIN 315A specifies requirements for rectangular wing nuts, while DIN 315D specifies requirements for round wing nuts.

Our organization also provides test services for fasteners, wing nuts and round wings within the scope of DIN 315 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
