The DIN 962 standard, published by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN), defines bolts, screws, studs, and nuts, providing information on their types and finishes. This standard describes a nomenclature system for bolts, screws, studs, and nuts, and indicates types and finishes that go beyond the specifications in product standards.

Similarly, in the ISO ISO 8991 standard published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), a system to be used in product standards is described (ISO 8991 Identification system for fasteners). It also provides examples of hex head bolts, screws and nuts, tapping screws, parallel pins and washers.
The DIN 962 standard introduces a nomenclature system for bolts, screws, studs, and nuts—in short, fasteners—and also provides additional ordering definitions for the properties and finishes of such fasteners, such as thread type, thread tip, bolt head or nut gaps, and hardness. Where no specifications are given for the dimensions of such properties, for example, for thread tips, the relevant standards, such as DIN 76-1 or DIN 78, apply. Fasteners are not expected to conform to the designs shown here. The definitions given here may also be taken as supplementary information to ISO definitions.
The definitions of fasteners should be based on the principles set out in Chapter 820 of the DIN 27 standard, unless otherwise specified in the existing standards, unless there are changes that could cause misinterpretations. The elements of a standard definition are given in a table within the standard. The general properties of the fasteners are included in the specifications of the relevant product standard.
The specifications of the relevant basic standards and product standards are considered valid in relation to the determination of the property class and material of fasteners. In addition, the specifications of the basic standards and product standards related to the determination of the product class of the fasteners are accepted as valid. If fasteners need to be equipped with a specific finish, the assignment should be completed accordingly.
Our organization also provides testing services for bolts, screws, studs and nuts within the scope of DIN 962 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
