The TS 12439 standard published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) covers napkins made of paper. Cleaning papers used for other purposes and napkins made of fabric are not included in the scope of this standard.

While preparing this standard, the following standard developed by the American Testing and Materials Organization (ASTM) was taken as a basis: ASTM D4560-92 Paper napkin specification for industrial and institutional use. This standard describes the requirements for various size and fold paper napkins for buyers such as government agencies, school boards and industry. This standard includes paper products with virgin and recycled content.
Napkins are the final decorative touch to the table setting and are used for cleaning or protecting clothes. At the same time, napkins are the elements that complete a beautiful table setting.
The group of papers, known collectively as sanitary grades, includes toilet paper, towels, facial tissue, as well as paper napkins. These products are obtained from sulphite and bleached kraft pulps with relatively little refining and varying proportions to maintain a soft, bulky, absorbent layer. This layer is further softened by machine creping, in which the wet sheet is pressed onto a flat drying roller and then removed by running it against a flat stationary metal blade. The facial tissue is dry creped, that is, drying is completed on the drying roller before the creping scraper blade. The paper napkin is usually creped while still wet. Napkins are slightly heavier than tissues. The plastic nature of the paper fibers when slightly damp allows for the reproduction of surface patterns by embossing considerably. Paper napkins are an example of this art.
Sanitary papers are relatively weak due to their soft and bulky texture. They are often treated with resins to increase wet strength, as they are often exposed to wetting during use.
Used in a wide variety of forms, paper napkins are characterized by a wide variety of properties. Identifying and expressing these differences depends on the application of standard test methods.
Our organization also provides testing services for paper napkins within the scope of TS 12439 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
