Child Product Certificate (CPC)

Child Product Certificate (CPC)

Companies that manufacture and import children's products must provide a written Children's Product Certificate (CPC) based on test results from a laboratory recognized by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). With this certificate, it is documented that children's products comply with the applicable child product safety rules.

Child Product Certificate (CPC)

There are several children's products for which a Child Product Certificate will be obtained. For example, bicycle helmets, baby bath seats, walkers, baby beds, bassinets, baby swings, cots, handheld baby carriers, strollers and pushchairs, highchairs, children's folding chairs and stools, baby tubs, baby changing products, booster seats , doors and enclosures, children's toys, paints and similar surface coatings, bicycles, bunk beds, general wear, children's pajamas and mattresses, and mattress pads.

The elements that must be included in a Child Product Certificate are:

  • Description of the product covered by this certificate
  • Reference to each Consumer Product Safety Commission child product safety rule for which this product is certified
  • Identity of the importer or domestic manufacturer confirming the conformity of the product
  • Contact information of the person keeping the records of the test results
  • Date and place where this product was manufactured
  • Dates and place where the product was tested for compliance with the above consumer product safety guidelines
  • Name, full mailing address, and telephone number of any third party, CPSC-accepted laboratory, affiliated with testing the certificate

Manufacturers or importers are responsible for the preparation and issuance of the Children's Product Certificate. These companies may prepare this certificate themselves based on positive third-party test results.

A company that manufactures or imports a children's product that is subject to product safety rules or other standards for children is always legally responsible for issuing a Child Product Certificate, even if a third-party testing laboratory provides assistance in preparing it.

A Child Product Certificate issued based on test results from a laboratory recognized by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) declares that products comply with applicable child product safety rules.
