The AA-55126B standard developed by the US Department of Defense replaces the MIL-F-21840 standard (MIL-F-21840G Military specification: holder, hook and loop and synthetic tapes). This old standard covered the requirements for synthetic tape fasteners consisting of a hook tape and a loop pile tape.

Standard AA-55126B now describes the requirements for different types, grades, colors and widths of synthetic hook and loop fastener tapes. Woven and extruded fastener tapes are intended to be used as covers for equipment and clothing. Users have to determine which type and class of hook and loop tapes meet their requirements.
In this standard, hook and loop tape types are specified as follows (hook only):
In this standard, hook and loop tape classes are specified as follows:
Woven hook and loop tapes are manufactured from synthetic fibers and yarns. Type III and IV, class 4 hook fasteners are manufactured using extruded nylon resin. Grade 2 hook fastening tape is a blend of aramid and nylon fibers and threads, consisting of a nylon hook with an aramid ground. Class 1 loop fastening tape is 100 percent nylon and class 2 loop fastening tape is 100 percent aramid.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services for retaining tapes, hook and loop tapes, under the AA-55126B standard, with our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
