Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 102 Tests

UN ECE R102 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in categories N 2 , N 3 , O 3 and O 4 in terms of Close Connection Device (CCD).

UN / ECE R 102 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 102 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions for the approval of vehicles for a close coupling device (CCD) and the tests performed accordingly.

Close coupling device (CCD) means a device that automatically provides sufficient clearance between the bodies of towing vehicles and trailers when additional clearance is required during angular movement between them. Coupling devices that have no adjustment effect on the length and/or angles inside the device are not within the scope of this regulation. Approval of a vehicle means the approval of a vehicle with respect to the installation of an approved close coupling device.

A CCD or a vehicle equipped with a CCD shall be designed, constructed and installed in such a way that it complies with the requirements of this regulation under normal road use conditions. The coupling devices themselves shall comply with the technical requirements of regulation No. 55. Additional forces that may be generated by the installed CCD in operation shall be taken into account.

Within the scope of test and performance requirements, measurements and tests such as ccd recovery distance measurement, combination stability, straight line stability test, lane change test, load test, circular motion performance are carried out.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
