Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 70 Tests

UN ECE R70 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of rear signage plates and plates.

UN / ECE R 70 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 70 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of rear marking plates for heavy and long vehicles and the tests applied accordingly.

Within the scope of the regulation, the relevant equipment must meet the following;

  • Rear marking plates shall be constructed to function satisfactorily and function in normal use. In addition, they will be free of design or manufacturing defects that would impair their efficient operation or maintenance in good condition.
  • Components of retroreflective/fluorescent rear marking plates (class 1) or retroreflective only SMV rear marking plates (class 2) will not be easily removable.
  • The means of attachment of the rear marking plate must be such as to allow a stable and durable connection between the plate and the rear end of the vehicles, for example, with screws or rivets.
  • The outer surface of the retroreflective/fluorescent rear marking plate (class 1) or only the retroreflective rear marking plate (class 2) will be easy to clean. For this reason, the surface will not be rough and the protrusions it may exhibit will not prevent easy cleaning.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
