Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 126 Tests

UN ECE R126 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of division and separation systems.

UN / ECE R 126 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 126 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions and associated tests for the approval of partition systems to protect passengers against displaced luggage provided as non-original vehicle equipment.

This Regulation applies to devices intended to protect occupants from the dangers of luggage slipping into vehicle seating areas in the event of a frontal impact of category M1 vehicles supplied as non-original vehicle equipment.

Separation system or partition means, in addition to seat backs, parts or devices intended to protect passengers from displaced luggage. Non-original vehicle equipment means a partition system that is not offered as standard or optional equipment by the vehicle manufacturer and is not offered as optional equipment for the vehicle(s) application(s) envisaged by the partition system manufacturer.

When tested in accordance with the requirements of the relevant paragraph of the regulation, separation systems must withstand forces sufficient to demonstrate their ability to protect passengers from displaced luggage in frontal impacts. The installed partition system must not contain dangerous roughness or sharp edges that could increase the risk of serious injury to occupants.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
