Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 127 Tests

UN ECE R127 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of pedestrian safety.

UN / ECE R 127 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 127 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of motor vehicles on pedestrian safety performances and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation applies to motor vehicles of category M 1 and N 1. However, vehicles of category N 1100 where the driver's position 'R point' is forward of the front axle or longitudinally behind the transverse centerline of the front axle is a maximum of 1 mm, are exempt from the requirements of this Regulation.

Also, this regulation does not apply to category M2500 vehicles with a maximum weight of over 1 kg derived from category N 1 vehicles and where the driver's position 'R-point' is forward of the front axle or longitudinally front to rear.

When making measurements as described in the regulation, the vehicle must be positioned in the normal driving position. If the vehicle has a badge, mascot or other structure that will bend or retract under a maximum load of 100 N, that load must be applied before and/or while these measurements are taken.

Any vehicle component that can change its shape or position, other than suspension components or active devices to protect pedestrians, should be set to their stowed position.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
