UN / ECE R 50 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 50 (UN/ECE) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — Uniform provisions regarding the approval of front position lamps, rear position lamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps and rear license plate lighting devices for category L vehicles and the tests applied accordingly covers.

All devices must comply with the regulation. Devices must be designed and constructed in such a way that they continue to operate satisfactorily and maintain the specifications set forth in this regulation, in normal use and despite the vibrations to which they may be exposed.

The lighting systems mentioned in the regulation are lamps with different commercial titles or brands or with different optical properties such as intensity levels, light distribution angles, light source category and light source module. The lighting values of all equipment within the scope of the regulation should not be less or more than the specified dimensions.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
