UN / ECE R 11 Tests

Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 11 Tests

UN ECE R11 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation to evaluate vehicles of category M1 and N1 for door holding components and latches, such as hinges and other supporting means on doors, which can be used for the entry and exit of passengers.

UN / ECE R 11 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval in this respect, but only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 11 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of vehicles with regard to door latches and door-holding components and the tests applied accordingly.

The application for approval of a vehicle type with respect to door latches and door retaining components is made by the vehicle manufacturer or its duly accredited representative.

The general requirements apply to all side and rear doors and door components, except folding doors, rolling shutters, detachable doors and doors designed to provide emergency exits.

Within the scope of UN ECE R11 tests, the following tests are carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation;

  • load tests
  • Tensile tests
  • Inertia tests
  • Dynamic tests
  • acceleration pulse
  • Transverse and longitudinal load tests
  • Vertical load tests
  • Static load tests
  • full door test

For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
