Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 22 Tests

UN ECE R22 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the regulation on the evaluation of protective helmets and visors for drivers and passengers of moped and motorcycle type vehicles.

UN / ECE R 22 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation (UN/ECE) No. 22 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of protective helmets and visors for motorcycle - moped drivers and passengers and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation applies to protective helmets for riders and passengers of 1/ mopeds and motorcycles with or without a sidecar, and visors fitted or intended to be attached to such helmets.

Protective helmet refers to a helmet primarily intended to protect the wearer's head from impacts. Some helmets may provide additional protection. Helmets have a part called the shell and this part is used to express the hard part of the protective helmet.

The basic structure of the helmet should be in the form of a hard outer shell with additional means and a retention system to absorb impact energy. Ear caps and neck curtain can be attached to the protective helmet. It may also have a removable crown, a visor, and a lower face cover.

If a non-protective lower face cover is fitted, the outer surface of the cover must bear the "Does not protect the jaw from impact" sign and/or a regulatory symbol indicating that the lower face cover is not suitable to provide any protection.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
