Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 33 Tests

UN ECE R33 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation to evaluate the vehicle in terms of passenger safety in the event of a frontal collision in motor vehicles.

UN / ECE R 33 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 33 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding structural approval of vehicles in the event of a frontal collision and the tests applied accordingly.

The purpose of this Regulation is to ensure that passenger and driver safety is ensured in the event of a frontal collision, which is one of the deadliest accident scenarios. In this context, various tests are performed with the speed limits and other parameters specified in the regulation by using a mannequin. As a result of the tests, it is expected that none of the equipment of the passenger compartment in the vehicle will be damaged to a degree that will harm the passenger.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
