Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 141 Tests

UN ECE R141 tests cover a series of tests performed in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).

UN / ECE R 141 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 141 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of vehicles for Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation applies to the approval of vehicles of categories M 1 (up to a maximum of 3500 kg), M 2 , M 3 , N 1 , N 2 , N 3 , O 3 and O 4 equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) refers to a system fitted to a vehicle that can evaluate the pressure of tires or the pressure change over time and transmit relevant information to the user while the vehicle is running.

Each vehicle in the categories M 1 (maximum 3.500 kg), M 2 , M 3 , N 1 , N 2 , N 3 , O 3 and O 4 equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) meets the performance requirements in the regulation in the territory of the Contracting Parties must meet the wide variety of road and environmental conditions encountered. In addition, the effectiveness of a tire pressure monitoring system, tire pressure refill system or central tire inflation system fitted to a vehicle must not be adversely affected by magnetic or electric fields.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
