Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 136 Tests

UN ECE R136 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of category L vehicles in terms of electric powertrain.

UN / ECE R 136 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation (UN/ECE) No. 136 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — Covers the uniform provisions for the approval of category L vehicles and associated tests with regard to special requirements for the electric powertrain. This Regulation does not cover post-collision safety requirements for road vehicles.

The regulation covers the following;

  • Part I: Safety requirements regarding the electric powertrain of category L (6) vehicles not permanently interconnected, equipped with one or more electrically powered traction motor(s), with a maximum design speed exceeding 1 km/h.
  • Part II: Safety requirements for the Rechargeable Electric Energy Storage System (RESS) of category L vehicles equipped with one or more electrically powered traction motors and not permanently connected to the grid, with a maximum design speed exceeding 6 km/h.

II of this Regulation. Section XNUMX does not apply to REESS(s) whose primary use is to provide power to start the engine and/or lighting and/or other vehicle auxiliary systems. The electrical safety requirements specified apply to high voltage busbars under conditions where they are not connected to external high voltage power supplies.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
