Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R9 Tests

UN ECE R9 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of three-wheeled vehicles in terms of noise generated.

UN / ECE R9 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 9 (UN/ECE) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of three-wheeled vehicles in terms of noise and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation includes provisions regarding the noise emitted by three-wheeled motor vehicles. For the purposes of the Regulation, "Approval of a vehicle" means approval of a vehicle type with respect to noise.

The vehicle, engine and muffler system shall be designed, manufactured and installed in such a way as to ensure that the vehicle complies with the provisions of this Regulation despite the vibration to which it may be subjected in normal use.

The silencing system shall be designed, constructed and installed to withstand the corrosive impact to which it is subjected. The noise produced by the type of vehicle submitted for approval will be measured by the two methods described in this regulation for the vehicle in motion and the vehicle at rest.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
