Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 68 Tests

UN ECE R68 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of all vehicles, including electric vehicles in categories M1 and N1, in terms of maximum speed.

UN / ECE R 68 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 68 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions for the approval of driven vehicles, including pure electric vehicles, regarding maximum speed measurement, and the tests applied accordingly.

This Regulation applies to the approval of powered vehicles, including pure electric vehicles of category M1 and N1 regarding the measurement of the maximum speed specified by the manufacturer. Maximum speed represents the maximum constant speed for thermal engine driven vehicles, while for electric vehicles it represents the highest average speed value that the vehicle can maintain twice over a distance of 1 km.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
