UN / ECE R 97 Tests

Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 97 Tests

UN ECE R97 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicle alarm systems intended to be permanently installed on vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation.

UN / ECE R 97 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 97 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of vehicle alarm systems (VAS) and motor vehicle alarm systems (AS) and the tests applied accordingly.

Vehicle alarm system (VAS) are systems designed to indicate unauthorized entry or tampering with the vehicle and intended to protect against unauthorized use of the vehicle. 'Sensor' means a device that detects a change that may result from intrusion or tampering with a vehicle. 'Alert device' means a device that indicates that an intrusion or tampering has occurred.

Control equipment describes the equipment required to set, unset and test a Vehicle alarm system (VAS) and to send an alarm condition to the warning devices.

The VAS (vehicle alarm system) will issue a warning signal in case of intrusion or tampering with a vehicle. The warning signal must be audible and may also include optical warning devices or be a radio alarm or any combination of the above. VASs, when equipped, will be designed, constructed and installed to continue to comply with the relevant technical requirements, particularly with regard to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

If the VAS includes the possibility of setting or de-setting the alarm, or a radio transmission for alarm transmission, the VAS must comply with the relevant international standards.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
