Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 147 Tests

UN ECE R147 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of agricultural and similar categories of vehicles specified in the regulation in terms of mechanical connection components.

UN / ECE R 147 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation (UN/ECE) No. 147 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of mechanical coupling components of combinations of agricultural vehicles and the tests applied accordingly.

Mechanical coupling devices and components means all items on the chassis, load-bearing parts of the bodywork and chassis of the motor vehicle and trailer, by which they are interconnected to form the vehicle or articulated vehicle combination. Fixed, movable, or detachable parts are included for attachment or operation of the mechanical coupling device or component.

This Regulation lays down the requirements that mechanical coupling devices and components must meet in order to be considered mutually compatible and interchangeable at the international level. This Regulation applies to devices and components for vehicles (agricultural vehicles) of category T, R or S1 intended to form a vehicle combination.

Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
