Homologation and UN ECE Automotive Type Approval Tests

UN / ECE R 34 Tests

UN ECE R34 regulation covers a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of M, N and O category vehicles in terms of fire risks in case of collision with regard to tank(s) for fuel oil.

UN / ECE R 34 Tests

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation 34 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of vehicles for the prevention of fire risks and the tests applied accordingly.

Hydraulic Test of Liquid Fuel Tanks; The tank must be subjected to a hydraulic internal pressure test, which must be performed on an insulated unit with all its accessories. The tank must be completely filled with a non-flammable liquid (eg water). After all communication with the outside has been cut off, the pressure through the pipe connection through which the fuel is supplied to the engine must be gradually increased to a relative internal pressure equal to, and in any case not less, twice the operating pressure used. It represents more than an overpressure of 0,3 bar, which must be maintained for one minute. During this time, the tank shell should not crack or leak; but it can be permanently deformed.

Rollover Test; The tank and all its accessories must be mounted on a test fixture corresponding to the installation mode in the vehicle for which the tank is intended: this also applies to systems for balancing the internal overpressure.

Apart from these, frontal impact test against a barrier, lateral impact test and other tests specified in the regulation will be performed on the vehicle. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
