UN ECE R56 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of headlights of vehicles in mopeds and similar categories.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation No. 56 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of headlights of mopeds and similar category vehicles and the tests applied accordingly.
With regard to photometric performances, when testing the photometric performances of any headlight selected at random and equipped with a standard filament lamp, there is no objection to the suitability of mass-produced headlights if any measured value deviates unfavorably from the prescribed values by more than 20 percent.
If the results of the tests described above do not meet the requirements, the tests on the headlamp should be repeated using another standard filament lamp. Headlights with visible defects are not taken into account.
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
