UN ECE R139 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of the vehicles in the categories specified in the regulation in terms of Brake Support Systems (BAS).

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation (UN/ECE) No. 139 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe — covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of cow cars for Brake Assist Systems (BAS) and the tests applied accordingly.
This Regulation is valid for the approval of M1 and N1 category vehicles regarding brake assist systems and does not cover the following;
Brake Assist Systems (BAS) are smart enough to detect when the driver is panicking in a scenario where they are trying to avoid colliding with something, and in response it applies maximum pressure to the brakes. When the driver applies maximum pressure to the brake pedal at a sudden speed and is traveling rapidly, the brake assist system works in conjunction with the anti-lock braking system, a feature found in almost all modern cars.
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
