UN ECE R29 tests cover a series of tests carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation to evaluate the safety of passengers who will travel in the cabin of commercial vehicles in category N 1.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.
Regulation No. 29 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — It covers the uniform provisions regarding the protection of passengers traveling in the cabin of a commercial vehicle and the tests applied accordingly.
Approval of a vehicle according to the Regulation means the approval of a vehicle type in accordance with the requirements of this Regulation with regard to the protection of the occupants of a vehicle's cabin in the event of a frontal impact or rollover.
The cabin of the vehicle should be designed and connected to the vehicle in such a way as to eliminate as much as possible the risk of injury to passengers in the event of an accident. During tests, the components with which the cab is fixed to the chassis frame may deteriorate or break, provided the cab remains attached to the chassis frame. None of the doors will open during the tests, but the doors will not need to be opened after the test.
Within the scope of the regulation, many mechanical, dynamic and environmental tests are carried out as well as measurements for the approval of the relevant equipment. For tests to be considered successful, test results must meet regulatory requirements.
